Places to explore
Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum
Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum brings together the Terracotta Army and the wider imperial burial site. Excavated pottery warriors and horses reveal the scale, organisation and craftsmanship associated with the first emperor’s mausoleum.
Xi’an City Wall
Xi’an City Wall traces the historic city with broad ramparts and imposing gate towers. Expanded during the Ming dynasty, its fortifications frame views across the surrounding streets and help explain the layout of the old city.
Shaanxi History Museum
Shaanxi History Museum presents artefacts spanning a long period of Chinese history. Bronze objects, Tang tomb murals and gold and silver works illuminate the region’s artistic traditions and its connections with the ancient capital.
Giant Wild Goose Pagoda
The Giant Wild Goose Pagoda was built to house Buddhist scriptures and images brought back by Xuanzang. Its seven-storey square brick form connects the skyline of Xi’an with the religious and architectural history of the Tang dynasty.
Huimin Street
Huimin Street refers to a wider food district around Beiyuanmen, Xiyangshi and neighbouring lanes. Its streets are associated with northwestern Chinese Muslim food traditions, including beef and lamb paomo, cured meats and sweet rice cakes.
Bell and Drum Towers
Xi’an’s Bell and Drum Towers are historic landmarks dating to the Ming dynasty. Standing a short distance apart, their prominent forms provide a recognisable focal point within the streets and commercial activity of the old city.
Datang Never Sleeps City
Datang Never Sleeps City is a pedestrian district inspired by the culture and architecture of the Tang dynasty. Extending from the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda towards Kaiyuan Square, it combines traditional-style buildings with evening illumination.
