Places to explore
Forbidden City
The Forbidden City was the imperial palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Its courtyards, halls and wooden architecture follow a grand central axis, while the museum collections reveal details of life at court.
Tiananmen Square
Tiananmen Square occupies a prominent position on Beijing’s central axis. The Monument to the People’s Heroes, Chairman Mao Memorial Hall and National Museum of China frame a setting closely connected with the city’s public history.
Summer Palace
The Summer Palace brings together Kunming Lake, Longevity Hill and classical imperial gardens. The Long Corridor, Tower of Buddhist Incense and Seventeen-Arch Bridge connect waterside scenery with richly detailed traditional architecture.
Temple of Heaven
The Temple of Heaven preserves the ceremonial grounds where Ming and Qing emperors prayed for good harvests. Its blue-roofed Hall of Prayer, ancient cypress groves, Echo Wall and Circular Mound Altar express traditional ritual design.
Shichahai
Shichahai links the lakes of Qianhai, Houhai and Xihai with the streets of old Beijing. Lakeside hutongs, former princely residences, small eateries and bars bring together historic architecture and everyday neighbourhood life.
Badaling Great Wall
The Badaling section of the Great Wall follows steep mountain ridges punctuated by watchtowers. Its Ming-era fortifications and sweeping views of the surrounding hills offer a striking introduction to the wall’s defensive architecture.
Universal Beijing
Universal Beijing brings familiar film worlds into themed settings inspired by Harry Potter, Jurassic World and the Minions. Attractions such as Decepticoaster and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey reflect the park’s cinematic focus.
